Advaita



the brief

Scope of Work:
Identity + Print + Web

Identity development, album & promotional art, & website development for Advaita, a prominent hybrid rock band. The focus was to reposition them as an 'experimental rock' rather than 'fusion' band, while staying true to the idiosyncracies of their textured sound.

what we did

We started with the need for a band logo that represented their philosophy of 'post-dulaism' and at the same time, in vein of all great rock bands, looked cool on a drum-set and on concert Ts. 

Their music was an amalgamation of various elements and influences, from psychedelic and prog-rock to indian classical to electronic music. We then developed an overall visual language borrowing and merging elements and styles that best represented this diversity. 

We then took this design direction and expanded it to create the entire album art for their second album: 'The Silent Sea'*. The idea was for the art to represent objects that had been collected in an attempt to capture things that could not be contained - memories, thoughts and emotions.

* This was also awarded Album Art of the Year at the Jack Daniels Music Awards 2012.


Consequently, this identity was carried forward to a band website that was meant to be a window to the entire 'Advaita universe'.
